Prof. Ritzer received his Ph.D at Cornell University. In 2000 he received the American Sociological Association's Distinguished Contributions to Teaching Award.
Prof. Ritzer is one of the leading social theorists and cultural commentators of modern times. His books on the consumption behavior of the present western society have raised many debates all around the world in critique of the so-called globalization.
But his research efforts are not only oriented toward the application of social theory to the everyday realms of the economy and consumption, but also to metatheorizing; in fact his interests involve the sociological theory and the integration of the sociological paradigm.
He is the editor, together with Don Slater of the Journal of Consumer Culture, a major new journal designed to support and promote the dynamic expansion in interdisciplinary research focused on consumption and consumer culture.
At AILUN he presents his more recent studies on the globalization of consumptions.
